WHY DIRECTOR ELECTIONS HAVE BEEN MOVED TO NOVEMBER
Date posted: 1/24/2012 link
Under the Texas Water Code director elections have been required to be held on the uniform election date in May of each even-numbered year. For the past several election cycles, the District has contracted with Travis County Elections Administrator for election services.
In 2011, the Texas Legislature amended the Election Code to provide that a county is no longer required to enter into a contract to furnish election services to a district for an election held in May of an even-numbered year. The new law does permit a political subdivision such as the District to change its election date to the November election date so that the County is required to furnish election services. Travis County has recommended that districts change their election dates to November for future elections. In the event the District wished to conduct its own election, it would have to rent voting equipment at a cost of at least $4,000. Purchasing voting equipment would cost approximately $14,520. These numbers do not include the cost of programming, testing, training, phone support and on-site support on election day. Some political subdivisions, such as small cities, have larger budgets and staff that can conduct elections, thus enabling them to hold their own elections. Entities such as the District do not have full-time staff that can conduct these activities.
The Board of Directors, at its regular meeting in December, determined that contracting with the Travis County Election Officials continues to be the most efficient and cost-effective method for conducting District elections. By conducting the District’s election jointly with the County and other entities, the cost will continue to be much lower than holding an election by itself.
The Election Code provides that those terms of office for directors whose terms would have expired in May, 2012 or May, 2014 will be extended to November, 2012 or November, 2014 as applicable.

Wastewater Averaging - Find YOUR Averaging Period
Date posted: 11/1/2009 link
The Austin Water Utility calculates wastewater costs on the amount of water
you use during three consecutive monthly billing periods between Nov. 16 and
March 17. We use late fall and winter months to establish wastewater averages
because less outdoor water is used during this time and the measurements more
accurately reflect indoor household usage that is returned to the wastewater system.
You can lower your wastewater costs for the next year by conserving your
water usage during the 3 monthly billing periods used to calculate your
wastewater average. Go to
www.cityofaustin.org/water
to get your specific dates for the wastewater averaging period and more details
on wastewater averaging and conservation tips to lower their water and wastewater bills.
